Onno van de Stolpe, MSc

Mr. Van de Stolpe is CEO of the successful biotech company Galapagos, which was founded by him in 1999 while he was Managing Director Genomics at Introgene (now Crucell). Galapagos is building its own product pipeline in addition to their profitable service business, and they have strategic alliances with 6 pharma companies, including Lilly, Roche, Janssen Pharmaceutica and GSK. Prior to joining Introgene in 1998, he was Managing Director of Molecular Probes Europe. He established this European headquarters after joining Molecular Probes in the US. Previously, he worked for the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency in California, where he was responsible for recruiting biotech and medical device companies to locate in the Netherlands. Mr. Van de Stolpe started his career as Manager Business Development at MOGEN in Leiden. He received a MSc degree from the Agricultural University in Wageningen where he became fascinated with molecular biology and bio-technology. Mr. Van de Stolpe brings a wealth of experience and an impressive network to DCPrime’s Supervisory Board.

Michel Briejer, PhD

Michel joined Thuja Capital early 2008 as an Investment Director. He has served in a variety of senior management positions both in the international pharmaceutical industry (e.g. Janssen Pharmaceutica (Belgium), Astellas Pharma as well as in the biotech industry (Crucell). Moreover, he worked as a consultant for a number of small pharmaceutical and biotech start-up companies in The Netherlands. Michel strengthens the Thuja team with a wealth of drug development know-how, ranging from chemically synthesized drugs to complex proteins produced by biotechnological methods. Michel holds a Master of Science degree in Pharmacy (Utrecht University) and a PhD in Pharmacology (Wageningen University), as well as a post-doctoral degree in Pharmaceutical Medicine (European Center for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Basle). Michel authored over 25 peer reviewed scientific papers and book chapters on pharmacology and drug development. Michel serves on the supervisory boards of Bioceros, Cavadis, Fabpulous and DCPrime.

Leon Hooftman, MD, PhD

Leon is currently Chief Medical Officer of Chroma Therapeutics, an emerging drug discovery and development company based in Abingdon, Oxford, UK. The company is focused on the identification of novel orally delivered, cell and species specific anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory agents based on esterase specific methodologies. Before joining Chroma he was Head of Clinical Development at Celltech Group plc. Prior to this he was Director of Clinical Science for Oncology/ Immunology at F.Hoffmann La Roche, where he built up extensive experience of biotechnology development programmes. Dr Hooftman qualified in medicine in 1984, from the University of Utrecht, the Netherlands. He trained in surgery and transplantation medicine in Holland, the UK and USA and holds a MD and BSc in medical sciences of Utrecht University.

Herbert Heyneker, PhD

After receiving his PhD degree in Molecular Genetics in 1975 from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands, Herb started post-doctoral work in the laboratory of Prof. Herbert Boyer at UCSF. His work focused on cloning and expression of chemically synthesized DNA coding for the lac operator and somatostatin. For the next 7 years, Herb worked as a senior scientist and was involved in cloning and expression of genes coding for therapeutic proteins, including human insulin, human growth hormone and immunoglobulins In 1984 Herb joined Genencor, a spin-off from Genentech, as Vice-President of Research. Genencor applied recombinant DNA technology for the improvement and cost-effective manufacturing of industrial enzymes. In the 90s Herb co-founded three biotechnology companies including Eos, a functional genomics company, where he was the Chief Technology Officer. After Eos was acquired by Protein Design Labs in 2003, he joined the London-based Venture Capital Firm Abingworth (www.abingworth.com) as an advisor. Herb serves on the Board of Directors for Prosensa and Profibrix, both in Leiden, and he consults for Crucell and Philips Healthcare Incubator, all in the Netherlands. He is an author on more than 50 peer-reviewed papers and an inventor on more than 30 US patents.
